today a good friend from college was hit over the head with a chair & put into a coma by some transphobic douche at some club called “glo” in new brunswick. he is awake now, thank every god anyone has ever believed in. the idea of my friend being beaten unconscious is really fucking horrifying. i know this stuff happens all of the time but it has never happened to one of my friends before…
& today in crafts class we were working on fun little valentine’s day stuff. It was so much fun until people started bickering. Words like, “queer,” “he-she,” “shemale,” & “retard” were thrown around the room faster than I could respond. When I tried to explain how hurtful these words were, some especially hurtful to this population, they just did not understand. I know sometimes they just cannot. I know sometimes the words they use are just echoes of the language they hear used around them day-to-day, amongst family & friends.
The silence after I spoke was just so fucking uncomfortable & I just wanted to cry.
